This article is all about what is content marketing. I thought to write on this topic because a lot of people find this to be extremely difficult. I hope after reading this article you will definitely get a clear cut idea about what is content marketing? Why do you need content marketing?
What is content marketing?
By this time you would be wondering what is exactly content marketing and I am going to give you a very boring textbook answer because you must know the concept behind it. Then I am going to breakdown the answer for you into nice small digestible bites.
“Content Marketing is a business process focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant and consistent content. This content is meant to attract and retain a clearly-defined audience and ultimately drive profitable customer’s action.”
Now in this whole boring textbook answer, few keywords are very important that kind of drink serves the essence of content marketing.
Now the most important thing here is valuable, relevant and consistent content. Your content needs to always deliver relevant value and you have to do that consistently because if you don’t do it your competitors will do it or someone else will do it. And you have to deliver value which is relevant to the problems of your users otherwise it is not going to be of any use at all.
As far as you have understood about content marketing.
Now the question comes.
Why are you doing this? Why do you need to do content marketing?
You are doing this to attract a clearly defined audience. This is super important. Content marketing is not meant to attract anyone or everyone. You are designing or crafting this strategy in such a way that you will attract a certain clearly defined audience who will ultimately become your customers by buying something from you that exactly what you want to happen with your content marketing efforts.
Two misconceptions about content marketing
Is content marketing a new fed – Is content marketing a new thing or a new kid on the blog that everybody is talking about.
Guess what NO.
Content Marketing has been around forever. I think the first instance of content marketing being used in the modern commercial world. I think credit goes to Mr. John Beard, who was a tractor manufacturer. He created his magazine called the far for the farmers in a way to talk about the problems that farmers are facing and how they can solve it especially using their tractors. And this was like the big hit. Even today John Deere is a big manufacturer of tractors and this is back in the 1800s.Can you image back in the 1800’s doing something so revolutionary and something which is like a breakthrough back then.
It is not a new thing. It’s been around for a very long time and it is going to be around for a long time too. It is so because content marketing is a very integral part of any of your marketing activities.
The second thing that I would like to address here is
Is it content (pronounce as ‘cantent’) marketing? Or is it Content (pronounce as ‘content’) marketing?
So, its content (pronounce as ‘content’) marketing. Content (cantent) means you are satisfied .every time you are trying to say cantent marketing, just stop yourself and correct yourself to say its content marketing.
I know English is a funny language. You can spell both the words same but the pronunciation is completely different.
Now, let’s try to understand why you should be involving yourself in content marketing.
So, you might be wondering why you need content marketing.
Why do you need content marketing?
It might befor your own business, your blog, somebody else’s business or your client’s business whatever it might be.
The answer is very simple. Content Marketing basically lubricates the process of your prospect going from discovering your brand all the way to him becoming a brand advocate after he becomes a customer. So, that’s the best part.
How or what does content marketing do so differently than other modes of marketing.
Its very simple, content marketing helps to create relationship with your audience. Now once you have built this relationship with your audience you have their trust and once you have their trust they will be more willing to do business with you. It is as simple as that. Trust is the only currency that works out there in the market.
So the more you have the trust of your audience the more it is easier for you to convert them into customers.
In essence, content marketing or rather your content should be attracting the right people to your blog or your site and convert these prospects who have just discovered your brand into leads and of course, you need to nurture them once they will become your leads. And then convert them into customers. And of course like it does not stop there. Once you become the customers then you try to turn them into your brand advocates.
You basically convert them into your brand advocate by delighting them with more relative valuable content which you will be providing them in a consistent manner.
I hope now you are more clear about content marketing. If you have any query then do mention it in the comment section.
